We are looking for a Creative Director to join our close-knit studio team in Johannesburg, where we design and build human-centered systems that use technology to transform businesses. Our products aim to reach everyone in Africa and push the boundaries of digital user experience to deliver delightful and unexpected results.
In a Creative Director, we are looking for someone with experience in executing, and working with teams through concept ideation, UI conceptualisation, visual design, branding and design thinking, and working across multiple mediums. System thinking. You can logically visualise complex systems, information architectures, user interaction flows and beautiful user interfaces.
User-centred perspective. You understand and can articulate a human-centred approach to design and you’re comfortable going out into the world for inspiration.
Prototyping skills. You are ready to learn from failure, embrace an iterative process and understand that success comes sooner with trial and error. You have experience in creating both low and high-fidelity design deliverables.
Delivery. You are responsible for day-to-day management of creative output against specific brief specifications, ensuring that all budgets and actual executions are aligned.
Team skills. You support and inspire teams through collaboration as well as direction, vision, and planning of design deliverables. You delegate effectively and appropriately.
Management skills. You’re involved in performance management, discipline and career growth, as well as planning for the design team.
Communication skills. You possess strong verbal and visual presentation skills. You demonstrate a clear point‐of‐view relating to your design. You understand the value of design, and branding within a business context.
Consulting skills. You should feel comfortable throughout all phases of a project, from translating verbal ideas into visual concepts, to design development and refinement in the creation of production-ready artwork.
Openness. You need to be flexible and open-minded, especially working in a startup-style office.
Desired skills and experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Information or Communication Design, New Media, or a professional equivalent.
At least five years’ experience in a design studio or creative consultancy.
Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically photoshop, illustrator and rapid prototyping tools.
Self-directed toward excellent work outcomes.
Excellent discretion, demonstrating sound judgment in dealing with confidential info.
Ability to travel occasionally.
